Personal Injury Attorney in Westminster, SC

When an auto accident happens out of the blue, even the most prepared driver can fall victim. One moment, you're driving home after a long, hard day at work. And then, without any warning, another person's negligence changes your life forever. But victims of personal injury accidents aren't only victims of negligence. They suffer from long-lasting pain, questions about work, and concern over their families - and that's if they're not clinging to life in the emergency room.

Unfortunately, without a personal injury attorney in Westminster, SC, to advocate for them, they mistakenly accept lowball settlement offers and provide official statements to greedy insurance corporations. Once you give an official statement or accept an offer for a fraction of what you deserve, there is little you can do to correct the situation. Fortunately, Lauren Taylor Law is here to protect your rights and fight fiercely on your behalf.

If you've been hurt in a car accident recently, you probably have a lot of questions. Some of them might sound like:

  • "How will I be able to pay for all of my hospital bills?"
  • "Am I going to get fired from my job for missing work?"
  • "Is there going to be enough money to pay rent this month?"
  • "Will I ever be able to enjoy my independence with a serious injury?"
  • "What is going to happen next with my personal injury case?"

With an excess of 100,000 auto accidents in South Carolina every year, these questions are commonplace in the law offices of Lauren Taylor. And truthfully, our hearts ache for innocent people who must suffer due to no fault of their own. What's sad is that these people aren't just left with questions; they must face the life-changing costs associated with car repairs, hospital bills, loss of income, and inconvenient follow-up appointments.

Scenarios like the one mentioned above are bleak, no doubt - but there's a silver lining that victims can be hopeful about. Laws in South Carolina say that those found responsible for your suffering and pain are obligated to cover your expenses. And that, in a nutshell, is where your personal injury attorney in Westminster, SC, comes in: to ensure that negligent drivers and others are held accountable for their actions.

How to Maximize Compensation in an Auto Accident Case

At Lauren Taylor Law, we encounter many auto accident victims who are injured due to negligence but who fail to take the proper steps after their accident occurs. Often, failing to keep records of your car wreck and its aftermath has a negative impact on how much compensation you get. By following these steps, you have a better chance of maximizing your financial compensation, so you can pay your medical bills and continue to put food on the table.

Seek Medical Attention

Seek Medical Attention

Before you do anything else, it's important to go to a doctor who can diagnose and treat any injuries you may have sustained in your car accident. It might not be evident right now, but your injuries may be far more serious and long-lasting than you know. For example, injuries involving your head or back aren't easy to pinpoint and sometimes require time to manifest. By getting a complete exam that reveals the extent of the damage you've sustained, you'll have proof of your injuries and can recover much quicker.

Submit an Accident Report

Submit an Accident Report

Filing an accident report with the local authorities is a critical step to take. Depending on the circumstances of your car accident, the authorities with whom you file may change. For auto wrecks in Westminster, you need to file a report with highway authorities and relevant insurance agencies. By filing an official report, you have an established record of your accident, which may be referred to at a later date.

Save Evidence When Possible

Save Evidence When Possible

Any great personal injury attorney in Westminster, SC, will tell you that personal injury cases are won with good evidence. You might think it's on the police to preserve evidence, but it's important that you try as well. That's especially true if you're injured. Because, if we're being honest, car accident evidence has a tendency to disappear. By securing evidence after your car wreck, our team can use it in court. For instance, if you can't get a witness to speak with you right after your accident, their testimony may be deemed unreliable. We realize completing this step is easier said than done, especially after a scary car wreck. That's why it's so important to check off the last step on this list.

DUI Accidents in South Carolina

Drunk driving is a big problem in Westminster and the rest of South Carolina as well. When a person decides to drive drunk, they're making one of the most negligent decisions a person can make in a car or truck. Because drunk drivers have slower reflexes, delayed reaction times, and blurry vision, they are responsible for many car wrecks and deaths. Unfortunately, many people caught with DUIs often get away with their health intact, while victims and their families are left to suffer.

Individuals who choose to drive drunk are a hazard and cause a number of injuries, including:

  • Broken Bones
  • Soft Tissue Injuries
  • Brain Injuries
  • Back Injuries
  • Burns
  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Emotional Distress
  • Head Trauma

If you're hurt or have lost a loved one due to a drunk or impaired driver, Lauren Taylor Law is here to help. With extensive experience in DUI car accident cases, we will explain your rights in easy-to-understand terms. Regardless of the drunk driver's criminal case, a personal injury suit may still be filed against them.

Speeding Accidents in South Carolina

Most drivers in South Carolina will admit that, from time to time, they go a few miles over the speed limit. But excessive speeding is deadly. Data from the National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA) shows that 361 people were fatally injured due to speed-related crashes in South Carolina. Accidents due to speeding causes over one-third of traffic deaths in our state, making speeding wrecks one of the most common in our state.

If your or a family member has been to the ER or hospital due to the negligence of a speeding driver, know that you have rights. At Lauren Taylor Law, a personal injury attorney in Westminster, SC, will help you seek compensation for your damages.

GEORGETOWN — The list of Grand Strand natives to make multiple appearances on the big stage of Madison Square Garden is a short one.

Now add Goober the Sussex spaniel to that exclusive company.

Following his appearance at the 150th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show's Feb. 2-3 Best in Show main event, owner Tara Darling-Lyon returned to Georgetown from New York City feeling like a proud parent while Goober stayed with his handler for a victory tour on the dog show circuit.

"He's the No. 1 Sussex spaniel in the country for the second year," said Darling-Lyons, whose Tara Kennels has been breeding spaniels in Georgetown for 40 years. "A big part of it is Goober's attitude. He loves to show. He loves every aspect of it. He thinks of all the grooming as like a spa day."

Goober defended his Best of Breed title to represent the sporting class in the Best in Show at the historic Garden. Although he didn't win the overall award among the more than 2,500 qualifying dogs from over 200 breeds, Goober provided a highlight moment that elicited audible "awws" from the packed house.

Following Goober's moment in the spotlight to run around the arena, slow-motion replays on the Jumbotron showed his drooping face bouncing with each step, followed by a tongue lick that circled his entire nose. While some dogs are spooked by bright lights and crowd noise, he laps up the attention.

"He's a showman, for sure. He loves the crowd," said Darling-Lyon, who named him Whatchamacallit after the peanut-flavored candy bar but calls him Goober for his "goofy, sweet" personality.

"Goober's a ham. He thinks he's the king, and the crowd are his adoring people."

Darling-Lyon was his first fan, seeing something special in him even as a pup, and the dog show community agreed as Goober began to fetch a growing trophy collection. Now as a 5-year-old, reveling in the peak of his dog show days, Goober's resume includes a combined three Westminster Kennel Club and American Kennel Club Best of Breed championships and the title of Grand Champion Gold.

Despite Goober’s charming personality, Darling-Lyon said the criteria for judging is solely based on breed standards, a list of ideal traits and characteristics each dog must display. She also serves as a judge at dog shows and said Goober checks all the boxes of the bloodline's five Ls.

"Sussex spaniels should be long, low, level, liver-colored and have a lively tail, and Goober certainly has the last one in spades. He outwags every dog," she said. "They're almost the ideal dog because they're active when you want to be active or couch potatoes when you want to snuggle."

The Sussex spaniel has a flowing, feathery coat and a somber facial expression with sorrowful hazel eyes that defy its friendly temperament. In fact, the breed scores its highest marks for "affection with family" with five out of five stars, according to the American Kennel Club ratings.

Described by the AKC as "looking a bit like a cross between a cocker spaniel and a torpedo," the Sussex spaniel traces back to 18th century England, where pheasant hunters bred a small, sturdy bird dog to navigate the dense brush and hedgerows of the south coast countryside.

The result was a hunting dog and loyal companion described by the AKC as "placid, affectionate, even-tempered, true-blue, loyal … the Sussex Spaniel, a slow-but-steady hunter, and congenial housedog. His frowning expression is delightfully at odds with a typically cheerful nature."

While Goober is crossing the country for dog shows with handler Ingar Rismyhr, Darling-Lyon is bracing for a flood of interest in the breed following his appearance on the big stage. Winning at Westminster means traveling to dog shows as many as 180 times per year and a growing list of fans.

"It's huge for the Sussex spaniel," she said. "Westminster is different than every other dog show. There's a lot of prestige and pressure, so it's sort of like our Super Bowl. Every judge in the country is watching and sees who wins. It puts you on notice as the top dog."
